What is ozone? Ozone is a form of oxygen with three atoms per molecule instead of the two atoms for the oxygen in air.

Is ozone good or bad? Ozone can be good or bad depending on where it is. Ozone is good in the upper atmosphere where it protects us from dangerous ultraviolet radiation. Ozone is undesirable in the air we breathe (e.g. smog) because it irritates breathing passageways. Ozone is good when dissolved in water to kill germs and remove contaminants.

How is ozone made? In the upper atmosphere ozone is made from oxygen by ultraviolet light from the sun. At ground level, ozone can be made by sunlight reacting with hydrocarbon pollution and oxygen, forming smog. Ozone is produced by QuickPure™ appliances, municipal water treatment plants, bottled water manufacturers, etc, by passing air or oxygen through an electrical discharge called a corona.

Why make ozone? The most important commercial use of ozone is to purify municipal and bottled drinking water. Ozone is the most powerful water disinfectant, quickly killing even germs that chlorine doesn’t affect. It also destroys by oxidation water contaminants that cause bad taste, odor and color. Contaminants such as colloids, iron, manganese and sulfur are precipitated so they can be removed by a particle filter. Ozone is also used for municipal and aquarium wastewater treatment, for preventing bacterial growth on fruit, vegetables, and seafood, and in cooling water and swimming pools, for paper bleaching, etc.

What is QuickPure™ technology? Until Alab developed QuickPure™ technology there was no economical way to use ozone for the many small applications where it could be very useful. Very generally, QuickPure™ technology makes it possible to obtain effective concentrations of dissolved ozone in small appliances designed for various purposes.

Where can I buy QuickPure™ products? Only diffusers which use related technology are being offered for sale. Alab is seeking manufacturers, distributors, partners and investors to aid in commercializing QuickPure™ and diffuser products. If you can help, please let us know.
